Just as people have to adjust to colder weather, our pets need to do the same. Here are some quick hints that may help protect your pet during the winter months.Provide shelter to protect your pet from cold temperatures and the wind.
Provide straw or bedding to give your pet a warm base to lie on.
Make sure your pet’s water doesn’t freeze.
Provide your pet with extra calories to help keep him warm.
Limit outdoor exposure for puppies and older pets. Younger and older pets are more susceptible to the effects of the cold.
Avoid piling snow near fences that may allow your pet an escape route.
Don’t suddenly turn an indoor pet into an outdoor pet. It takes about one month for your pet to get accustom to the lower temperatures.
Don’t leave your pet alone in a car in either cold or hot weather. This is always dangerous.
